In the field and practice application areas of instruction are: Marksmanship, movement, concealment, observation, range finding, field sketch and range card, and care and cleaning.

Course Objectives

  • To develop the students ability to deliver precision fire under difficulty circumstances and varied environmental conditions.

  • To develop the students power of observation, perception, recollection, and documentation.

  • To develop the students capability to camouflage, conceal, and move undetected.

Equipment Requirements

Each student attending the counter sniper school should bring all their operational gear to include the following, if available:

  • Rifle capable of 1" moa (not a hunting rifle!) (Note: preferred rifle is bolt action in .308 caliber)

  • Match grade ammo (600 rounds)

  • Rifle drag bag (if available)

  • Cleaning equipment for rifle and scope

  • Binocular and/or spotting scope

  • Back pack

  • Ghillie suite (if available)

  • Rain poncho/tarp to cover gear (dark colored)

  • Canteen(s)

  • Knee and elbow pads

  • Field notebook and pens (waterproof, if available)

  • 2 sets of camouflage uniforms (minimum)

  • Hat

  • Soft body armor (if used on callouts)

  • 2 pairs of boots (minimum)

  • Rain suit (tops and bottoms)

  • Proper clothing for climate and environment

  • Flashlight

  • PT clothes (running shoes, sweats, shorts, etc.)

  • Each student needs to bring all swat-sniper equipment that they would use on an operation, to include handgun and gun belt with 25 rounds of handgun ammo.

Note: The weather can change rapidly. It may run from the lower 40’s to upper 80’s. There is always the possibility of rain. You will need a good rain suit, as we have found that a poncho will not keep you dry with the type of training we will be doing.  Be forewarned and bring the proper clothes for the 2 weeks.
